The idea of the Screen-Centric Future project has roots dating back to the 1980s when Ubiquitous Computing was first discussed by world renowned researchers at Xerox PARC (Palo Alto Research Center). PARC has shaped many aspects of the information age. For example, the computer mouse was invented there.
This makes our study a little different than most as you, the reader, are not only the provider of our data but also the consumer. The data we collected is compelling. It reveals an urgency that the screen-centric future is already here.
Based on our work with major financial institutions around the world and from McKinsey Global Institute research on automation and the future of work, we see six defining characteristics of future banking operations.
To thrive in a world where once-siloed roles like loan closing and fulfillment, compliance, and risk management become an integral part of product development, product management, and customer experience, banks will need to make major organizational changes. They will need to rethink how the people who make the bank run are going to function. This calls for three major efforts:
Vanessa Chang from our Designworks Shanghai studio recently gave a speech centered on rethinking the use of screens and displays at the Display Innovation China (DIC) 2021. Here is a summary and key insights from her presentation.
Just like our cars, which have seen massive shifts from gasoline-centric vehicles to intelligent driving, the display screen has undergone revolutionary changes. Up to this point, screens have been comprised of framed glass that display content, and have been controlled by hand-operated remotes. However, now we have reached a place where technology is rising to meet the complexity and nuance of human needs, rendering the traditional framework of understanding a thing of the past.
Interior view of the MINI Vision Urbanaut. A digital display layer exists below the analogue surface. Here you can see LED matrixes in the interior under a layer of textile in the rear of the car. These areas of the vehicle bring together the analogue and digital worlds into a new and immersive experience.
At the Shanghai Autoshow this year, we saw screens that could change height, size and proportion, which to us, indicates that the existence of the screen is not only to push information at you, but to produce the most seamless integration within the interior. A radical example of this integration is an interior concept just released by MINI, that includes a display covered in fabric. The aim is to allow the user to enjoy the technology, while also immersing in the warm texture and comfortable vehicle experience. This kind of integration allows the display to carry information, while also becoming a more intuitive, immersive and experiential part of the interior design for the user.
No matter how large the screen is, the most important factor is the ability to easily operate it. It must be accessible and the ergonomics must be understandable. Knowing this, how can we increase ease of use while removing unnecessary information layers? A key takeaway from gesture control, is that different users have different ergonomic needs. This insight allows us to create a more adaptable experience, where displays appear in the most suitable position for each user, rather than a one-size fits all display location. In this case, the ultimate goal is efficiency to ensure driver safety. Adaptable displays have the potential to create the simplest way to understand needed information quickly and without disruption.
We believe in partnerships. We build strong relationships and work together with our partners to identify unique opportunities to improve and impact the world we live in.Think this could be you? Let's talk.
Another core element of a customer-centric culture of innovation is ensuring your builders have access to the right instrumentation to collect, analyze, and utilize customer data. This will help you capture customer feedback to inform innovation, recognize and analyze trends in real time, and more deeply understand your customers so you can invent on their behalf.
Building a data-driven organization that treats data as a differentiating asset is one key to unlocking customer-centric innovation. With the right data, you can identify and improve processes and performance to drive better customer experiences, deepen customer engagement, and create greater business efficiency with faster decision-making. This helps builders move from idea to innovative experimentation more rapidly.
These variants of the Mercator projection position the world so that the Prime Meridian (0° longitude) lies in the center of the map view. Among other criticisms of the projection, this particular world view can present a problem if you are trying to display data that is located in region of the Pacific Ocean.

A high-quality BMS will have a communication interface for operators to connect and communicate with these batteries remotely. This interface opens a world of possibilities for operators to monitor data, collect log files, and crunch the numbers automatically. As we know from the Ponemon Institute research study, failure to take action on failed batteries is the leading cause of downtime. Now with lithium-ion battery management systems, it is as easy as monitoring a few fields in all of your batteries remotely.
The Black Pearl series has supported a number of groundbreaking projects within various application fields. From TV and film productions to the rental stage for concerts and exhibitions, one-of-a-kind displays have been produced on the BP2V2 LED canvas, such as Star Trek: Strange New Worlds, KIMI, MJ: The Musical, ABBA Voyage concert, and many more.
The ROE Visual team is grateful to witness the global success of the Black Pearl series thanks to the trust and support from its customers and partners. As the virtual production space continues to grow, so does the demand for high-quality components. Receiving various industry awards, praises, and recognition, the BP2V2 proves to be the optimal solution in LED display technology around the world.
The next major step for monitors will be head-mounted displays. Dell is largely sitting this trend out for now, HP has a nice, well-priced commercial VR headset, and Lenovo has the first head-mounted monitor from a major OEM. (It also offers the first Hololens competitor from a major OEM.) As I was writing, the first Smart AR contact lenses entered testing, as well.
The Belt and Road initiative also seeks to promote the notion that through most of its history China was the hub from which trade and transportation routes radiated across Central Asia to Europe and across the seas to Asia, maritime Europe and even the eastern coast of Africa. China was one of the countries that participated in a veritable network of caravan and shipping routes that criss-crossed the ancient landscape before the advent of European imperialism. Chinese silk was certainly prized across the world as were its ceramics. But so was Indian cotton, spices and precious gems. China was never a major trading nation and remained relatively insular through most of its history. It never developed the cosmopolitan spirit that has been a hallmark of the Indian temperament as it should be for a cross-roads culture. There were other great trading nations, including the ancient Greeks and Persians and later the Arabs. Much of the Silk Road trade was actually in the hands of the Sogdians who inhabited the oasis towns leading from India in the east and Persia in the west into western China. Thus, the recasting of a much more complex history of trade and transportation to reflect a Chinese centrality that never existed is another part of the current Chinese narrative of power and the Belt and Road Forum convened by President Xi Jinping in Beijing in March this year was designed to demonstrate that Chinese centrality was being accepted by friend and adversary alike as a natural manifestation of national rejuvenation put forward by him. China is today a great trading nation and justifiably called the factory of the world. But it owes its current prosperity to being part and parcel of a densely inter-connected global market and extended global value chains. This has little to do with economic history, which is that of a mostly self-contained and insular economy where external trade contributed little to its prosperity. 2b1af7f3a8
